Many times the Mt. Lion is referred to as a cougar. Mt. Lion populations across North America continue to grow rapidly. The fact that anti-hunters have been successful in shutting down some states seasons, and other states no longer allowed the predator to be hunted with hounds is certainly a contributing factor. Human encounters, and fatalities are also increasing.

For bowhunting purposes, it is seldom (but it has happened) that a bowhunter would have an opportunity to harvest a Mt. Lion without the use of hounds. BSC has outfitters with hounds in Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, and British Columbia. Hunt last from 7 to 10 days in duration. Lion hunts normally take place in Dec. through March. Some states require licenses be bought well in advance of the seasons opening dates, while others allow over the counter purchases 24 hours prior to the hunt.

Mt. Lions are truly an efficient predator, and take their toll on the elk and deer around the country they inhabit. BSC clients are urged to be in as good a physical condition as possible for these hunts. Hunting Mt. Lions is NOT "just shooting a lion out of a tree". The chases often take hours and miles upon miles before the cat is treed. There are cats that never get treed, there are dogs that are lost, there are dogs that are killed. There are canyons that need crossed, and snow knee deep on an elephant that you may find yourself in. For an outstanding, hard earned trophy, consider booking a Mt.
