Bowhunting in South Africa

This country was the first to begin to see the need for bowhunting regulations. Legal bowhunting started in the old Transvaal province in 1984 with the last of the original four provinces, Natal, coming on board in 1986. Now bowhunting is allowed in all 13 of the South African provinces. There are, however, specific rules and certifications necessary for the bowhunting of Cape buffalo.

South Africa offers perhaps the largest variety of plains game species than any other single African country. Aside from the main stay Impala, warthog, wildebeest, zebra etc. RSA has some specialized species like Mountain Reedbuck, Red Duiker, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest to name a few.  South Africa's bowhunting is done primarily on game farms.
