One of the most beautiful animals to hunt in New Zealand, the Tahr are not found anywhere else in the South Pacific. These goat type animals are native of the Himalayan mountains of Tibet. The unique characteristic is the long flowing mane that can reach to 18 inches in thickness.

Like the Chamois, the Tahr are difficult bow trophies to collect. Although lone bulls can be spotted which makes stalking somewhat easier than the large groups of Chamois. The Tahr are a big animal, with weights up to 250 lbs. Not uncommon. Trophy horn length is in the 11-13 inch range.

The Tahr is the most popular specie next to the Red Deer and are frequently hunted as the second specie on a stag hunt. Allow 3-4 days for reasonable shot opportunity. Strictly a spot and stalk hunt, like all goat hunting. If you are interested in collecting a Tahr, NZ is the most inexpensive country in the world to do it. These animals make impressive mounts.
