BSC has a couple of outfitters that we continue to send our clients to in Quebec, because they have proved that they can deliver for bowhunters. To date, BSC has never had a client come home with out harvesting at least one bull. Many bowhunters remember the articles in the 80's where the reader was led to believe that Quebec - Lab caribou hunt was about as close to a slam dunk on two trophy animals as you could find. It isn't that way. The caribou here have been unpredictable, and many camps just don't have the caribou come through. It is still bowhunting and nothing is ever guaranteed. Our outfitters continue to move camps from year to year, build duplicate camps "in case" so that they have options on where they will put clients for the week. They also will move clients mid hunt in order to get them into animals.
Hunts here are set up with different options available to suit your needs.
Some camps can be 6x1 where 6 hunters would have one guide / camp helper in
camp. Other camps are set up to have 3 guides per 6 hunters, plus a full
time cook. Hunt costs include air fare from Montreal to the end
destinations, sometimes the cost of tag, sometimes not, accommodations at
stop over points, getting some meat and horns back to Montreal etc. Limit
here is two caribou per hunter. Hunt costs can range depending on the level
of services you desire. The minimum P&Y score is 325” for this species.
General description of caribou
There are five
different species of caribou found in North America, as recognized by the Pope and Young
Club. BSC continuously researches the best opportunities for bowhunters to pursue this
magnificent antlered game animal. The five species, while all belonging to the same
species that includes the domesticated reindeer, are broken into 5 categories, for record
keeping purposes, by geographical boundaries. The categories are Woodland (taken only in
Newfoundland), Quebec - Labrador (taken in those two providence's), Central Barren Ground
(taken on Baffin Island, and in a portion of the NWT's east of the Mackenzie River and
west of Hudson's Bay), Mountain Caribou (taken in Alberta, British Columbia, and portions
of the Yukon and the MacKenzie Mountains of the NWT's), and Barren Ground Caribou (taken
in Alaska, and portions of the Yukon). BSC has a few outfitters we recommend for each
species, across North America. Like other species, we have hunted with the vast majority
of the outfitters we recommend.
