Bowhunting Polar bear in Canada

Polar Bears are found in the farthest northern portions of North America. Nanook, as the Inuit people call the polar bear, is truly one of the greatest trophy animals on the earth. For a period of time, polar bears could not be legally brought back to the United States, but recently, more and more locations throughout the NWT's have been opened up to bears being "importable". There are still locations that are "non-importable". While polar bear hunting is still legal in each of these areas, the "importable" bear hunts bring a higher price.

The hunts are conducted normally on a 1 on 2 basis. This means that there will be 2 guides, for each hunter. The hunter must be transported by dog sled while in the hunting area. Once a track is located, the pursuit begins. When the bear is sighted, normally a portion of the dog team will be released in an attempt to hold the bear at bay while the hunter gets within range. This is exceptionally dangerous, particularly with a bow and arrow, and the decision to book a polar bear hunt should not be done without carefully considering the risks.

While success rates on polar bear hunts average around 90%, BSC is happy to say to date; our clients have been closer to 100% successful in harvesting P & Y class bears. These hunts are some of the most expensive in North America. There are two options at this time. Hunting "importable" bear will be the most expensive and Non - importable bear hunts can be arranged for around 15% less. The P & Y minimum skull size for Polar bear is 20".
