There is a considerable difference in
bowhunting moose in Canada from East to West. On the eastern end of Canada is
the Province of Newfoundland. This island has the highest moose density in the
world, boasting of around three moose per square mile. These hunts can be
arranged as a single species hunt or done in combination with woodland caribou
but a bowhunter wishing to take a 50" moose is looking at the wrong end of Canada if
he is considering Newfoundland. Top end bulls will likely be in the low 40". The size of the moose in Quebec and Ontario
are larger on average than in Newfoundland. Ontario specifically has
a lot of P&Y entries and should not be overlooked; as there are many reasonably
priced hunts there.
Out West ( Alberta and British Columbia ) you
start to find a higher percentage of the larger bulls. BC probably is the best spot for
big trophy Canada moose
with bow and arrow (if you look a the P & Y record book entries). BC has good
success rates for bowhunting, where 50"+ bulls are much more common than
elsewhere.
