There is a considerable difference in
bowhunting moose in Canada from East to West. On the eastern end of Canada is
the Province of Newfoundland. This island has the highest moose density in the
world, boasting of around three moose per square mile. These hunts can be
arranged as a single species hunt or done in combination with woodland caribou a
bowhunter wishing to take a 50" moose is looking at the wrong end of Canada if
he is considering Newfoundland. While 50" bulls are there a 40" bull should be
considered a fine trophy in NFLD. The size of the moose in Quebec and Ontario
are not much larger.
It is not until you get into the West ( Alberta and British Columbia ) do you
start to find the larger bulls. BC probably is the best spot for trophy moose
with bow and arrow. We have some very good outfitter in BC with very high
success rates for bowhunting. Here 50" bulls are much more common, with a
several bulls in the 55" - 60" class taken each year.
