Bowhunting Mountain Goats in Canada

Mountain Goats are not really goats. They are an offshoot of the antelope family. Mt. Goats can be found in most of the western states, as well as Alberta, British Columbia, NWT's, Alaska, and one of the management units in the Yukon.

Goat bowhunting is tough physically, and BSC urges clients to be in the absolute best shape possible. Goats have a reputation of not being a keen as sheep, and some bowhunters have found them to be quite easy to harvest if you can get above them. Others have found them to be as skittish as any other wild animal at times. One thing for sure - while some goat bowhunts have more easily accessible that others, no goat hunt is easy! They truly are the monarch's on the mountain. Seeing goats is normally not a problem, deciding which goats are humanly accessible is another story. It has been said that more hunters have been injured bowhunting Mt. Goats than any other species in North America. Not from the animal, but from falls, and exposure.

BSC has outfitters in Alaska, as well as several locations in British Columbia that we book goat hunts for. Some areas and outfitters can offer goats along with some other species in conjunction (Mt. Caribou, Dall Sheep, Stone Sheep, Moose, Grizzly and Black bear). Multiple species hunts are considerably more than a single species goat bowhunt. Shooting opportunities for goat are normally very high if you are in shape and have a positive attitude. Some hunts are conducted with backpack, others with horses part way up, and some are only with bush plane access. Anyone with a goat on their trophy room wall has a lot to be proud of. If you want to hunt goats, be physically and mentally prepared. P & Y minimum is 40.
