Bowhunting Wild Boar in Europe
These adaptable hogs are found all through Europe, South America, South Pacific, although the true European boar have more of a bristle hair and longer snouts. Great eating and exciting bowhunting. Very difficult to put down for the count. They require accurate arrow placement, avoiding the tough “shield” of gristle over the shoulders. Vary widely in size depending on habitat. In Hawaii and most Polynesia they tend to be smaller (100-125 lbs.); while in Turkey and North Central Europe they grow quite large (400-600 lbs.!). Very aggressive when cornered. Great sport with hounds as well.
The wild hogs in Spain and France are not near the size as those found in countries further East, but they are abundant and make for good sport while pursuing some of the other big game.
